When Russell T Davies officially departed Doctor Who n 2010, the choice for the next showrunner was fairly obvious. Steven Moffat. After all, Moffat had already written some of the best episodes of Davies run, and fans were salivating at the prospect of his increased involvement in the show. Four seasons later, reactions to Moffats tenure as showrunner have been mixed, to say the least. Hes proven that hes capable of churning out such classics as the epic two-parter The Pandorica Opens/The Big Bang and the instantly classic The Day of the Doctor. At the same time, though, fans have been forced to endure such dreck as the overly-convoluted Silence arc of Series 6, not to mention the annoyingly inconsistent characters (Clara in Series 8, anyone?) and the frivolous overuse of the same plot elements and tropes. As Moffat moves into his fifth season as showrunner, rumblings have already begun as to who will replace him when he ultimately decides to depart. Rumours have circulated, speculation is rampant, but one thing is clear: The answer is nowhere near as clear-cut as it was with Davies departure, leaving Whovians everywhere pretty worried for the direction of the show after the Grand Moff takes his final bow. This list compiles the top 10 choices for the new showrunner of Doctor Who.To be clear, this factors both the likelihood of the selection as well as whether or not the respective choice would be any good. Off we go, then!
