Doctor Who: 8 Tom Baker Stories To Celebrate In January

Unearthing the classics.

By Tony Whitt /

Seeing as it€™s Tom Baker€™s 81st birthday this month (and by the way, Happy Birthday, Mr Baker!), it's as good a time as any to review all of the Baker-era stories that aired during the month of January to see if they were also worth celebrating. As you might expect some are, and some aren€™t, but as you might also expect, since it€™s the Baker era, the stories tend more towards the former than the latter. Before the retrospective begins, however, a few arbitrary ground rules are in order. This list will include only stories that started in January, not stories whose first episode actually aired in December and then aired mostly in January. On the down side, this means that Baker€™s very first story Robot doesn€™t make the list - its first episode aired on 28th December 1974, so it just misses out on being included here. On the plus side, there were a few years in which a four-parter started right at the New Year, so some years will have the bonus entry of a story that began at the end of January - and who wouldn€™t want a list to include Seeds of Dooms? As usual, our opinions may differ from yours and you€™re free to tell us what you liked or disliked about each story in the comments below. With all of that in mind, let's get started!
