In 1999 Matt Groening set his course on a new futuristic adventure with the slurmtastic animated comedy, Futurama (interestingly that was around the same time that the Simpsons started to take a dip. Coincidence? I think NOT!). In this show we follow Fry, a pizza delivery boy, who was accidentally frozen for 1000 years only to be woken up in New New York in the year 3000.
Here he meets a wide array of out-of-this-world characters like Bender, the robot who runs on malt liquor, Leela, an ass kicking Cyclops and Doctor Zoidberg, a crustacean homeless doctor. Together they work for Professor Hubert Farnsworth, a distant relative of Fry's, as a delivery crew for Planet Express.
The genius behind the show is not only the characters and the sharp dialogue but the hundreds of gags, puns and jokes hidden in almost every scene. From store signs to celebrity heads in jars, this show is crammed full of blink-and-you'll-miss-it gems that would sadly go unnoticed if not for the trusty pause button.

10. The Torture Wheel (Hell Is Other Robots)
Oh man, what an episode! Not only do we have the excellent Dan Castellaneta voicing the notorious Robot Devil, but there is also a guest appearance by The Beastie Boys too! Considering this was only the 9th episode ever made, Groening was setting the bar incredibly high and gave us a taste of the awesome things to come for this TV show.
In this episode, Bender becomes addicted to electricity which, in the robot world, is like being hooked on some serious class A drugs. Just when his addiction reaches fever pitch, he eventually finds the Temple of Robotology to get back on the straight and narrow. However, after a relapse, he is met by The Robot Devil who takes him to hell (located in New Jersey) for his sins.
When we paused: As Bender first enters hell, The Robot Devil introduces himself by means of an incredibly catchy song. In order to decide Bender's fate, he is strapped to a torture wheel like a sadistic game of The Price Is Right. The scene happens incredibly fast but if you pause the video at 00:31 , his torture would have been: parboil, bake, deep-fry, saute, fricasee, or a pleasant massage.
