Game Of Thrones: 10 Most Shocking Deaths You Didn't See Coming

By Edward Owen /

There's a lot of death in Game of Thrones, an awful lot indeed. It appears you can't turn a corner in King's Landing without getting ran through by some knight or other, and if you happen to be a soldier of any kind, you really aren't going to make it home at all. There's a lot of soldiers at the bottom of the Blackwater Bay and spread out in the garden of The Twins who can attest to that fact €“ if they weren't, y'know, dead €“ and though the Westerosi wars appear to be over, the fatality count shows no sign of slowing down over the Narrow Sea. But of course, in sprawling quasi-medieval epics, you half-expect a lot of people without nametags to die €“ it quite literally comes with the territory. Yet what marks Thrones out as a series is that just about anyone can die at any time, and George R. R. Martin and the showrunners seem to have a lot of fun pointing that out. A hell of a lot of characters have bitten the dust over the last three series, and each one has been shocking in thier own little way. Yet I'm here to point out the big beasts of death, those who shuffled off the mortal coil in particularly memorable/dramatic/heart-breaking fashion, sorting the wheat from the chaff to find the most shocking deaths the series has (sometimes literally) conjured up so far. Be wary, for there will be SPOILERS ahead.
