Game Of Thrones Season 8: Every Death Ranked Worst To Best
"Valar Morghulis" and BOY did they?!
It's all over. After the best part of a decade and eight stunning seasons, HBO's flagship fantasy show is no more. It will live on in perpetuity thanks to fan appreciation, angry memes and the spin-off prequels, of course, but never again will we get to sit down for a new episode of this show.
All shows must die, though and this one was always going to cut a bloody swathe through the characters who made it to the final season. As Ramsay Bolton said a few years ago, "if you think this has a happy ending, you haven't been paying attention." Death was set in the stars just as much as war, romantic disappointment and a new world order by the end of the season.
But the beauty was always in not really knowing who was going to die or how and the Thrones writers threw in some serious curveballs - including several surprising survivors by the end - as they set about killing off lots of loose ends. And given the spread of deaths, it's important to ask which was the most effective...
20. Harry Strickland (And The Golden Company)
Here lies Harry Strickland, the ghost of Cersei Lannister's relevance.
Harsh, perhaps, but the leader of the Golden Company - and indeed his entire outfit - was the very definition of a disappointment. We'd been led to believe that Cersei's most valuable military asset was going to shape the Last War and yet, beyond a couple of shots of them looking nice and smart, they lasted roughly a minute in battle.
It was the most Thrones things possible.
Strickland was supposed to be the Real Deal, but in the end, their purpose was merely to serve Dany's rage better. They became no more than impressive notches on Drogon's belt without even getting a decent shot off. Clearly money can't buy you everything.
