19. Dolorous Edd

As we headed into the final season, you could have been forgiven for thinking that Jon's other other best friend Dolorous Edd might have made it through the worst and be safe. He had, after all, survived the fall of the Wall and Wildling attacks and Hardhome and was surely made of the toughest stuff.

Unfortunately for him, he also had a heart, and his decision to save Sam Tarly - who he correctly identified as a danger to himself in battle - cost him his life. He was the first notable death of the Battle Of Winterfell and not only did he take a wight blade to his back, but he also did so with the burn of Sam's virgin joke ringing in his ears.

All-in-all, really not a great way to go.
