Boardwalk Empire creator Terence Winter, who was appointed to be the showrunner and writer of HBO Max spinoff television series to Matt Reeves' upcoming Batman film, has decided to exit the project due to "creative differences", according to Variety.

Warner Bros. ordered a full season just five months ago and now has to find a suitable replacement. The untitled show will be centred around the corrupted Gotham Police Department and function as a prequel to The Batman movie with Robert Pattinson. There won't be any connections to FOX's Gotham, which ended last year after five seasons.

The project is intended to launch a wider Batman universe across all Warner Bros. platforms. There have also been rumors of a Robert Pattinson cameo on the show. The director himself previously stated that it would be an amazing opportunity to “explore it in the kind of depth and detail that only a long form format can afford".

At this time a release date hasn't been shared yet while Reeves and the cast are currently in UK shooting new scenes for The Batman, scheduled to hit theaters on March 4th, 2022.
