Doctor Who star Matt Smith will leave his role as the 11th Doctor at the end of the year, BBC announced on Saturday evening. His final appearance after four years as the famed Time Lord will be in this year's Christmas special. He will bow out and regenerate in the episode in what BBC are calling a "speculator exit" but one that would be "kept tightly under wraps". Hmm... I wonder how long they can keep that under-wraps. The 30-year-old actor Smith is quoted as saying his time on the show has been "the most brilliant experience" and that he was "incredibly proud" of what he had achieved since he replaced David Tennant in 2010. He also thanked the fans for their support and that their dedication to the show is "truly remarkable". Playing devil's advocate here... but David Tennant's career hasn't exactly gone anywhere since he quit as the 10th Doctor. He's already back for the 50th anniversary... would it be beyond the realms of possibility that Steven Moffat asked if he would be up for returning to the role permanently and he said yes? Or is John Hurt's recently revealed Doctor the plan forward? Would viewers be so accepting of an older Doctor? Well according to Moffat's quotes in the press release, that won't happen...
"Somewhere out there right now - all unknowing, just going about their business - is someone who's about to become the Doctor," Moffat hinted. "A life is going to change, and Doctor Who will be born all over again. After 50 years, that's still so exciting." Do discuss guys...
Shouldn't we all just agree that Benedict Cumberbatch was born to play the role and give it to him already?
