Schitt's Creek: 10 Funniest Episodes

Schitt happens...

By James Egan /

When Dan Levy and his father, Eugene Levy, started spitballing ideas for a sitcom about a prosperous family who lose everything, nobody could've imagined how successful it would become. But when Schitt's Creek aired, it became one of the most celebrated shows of all time. Winning the most Emmys ever for a single season as well as being the first show to win the four big Emmy acting categories, it can't be stressed how unprecedented Schitt's Creek's success is.

It may have had a slow start but it wasn't long before the Levys' series was recognised for its heartwarming moments. Episodes like Grads Night, Open Mic, and the finale are so overflowing with emotion, it's nearly impossible not to tear up once or twice.

But Schitt's Creek is known for something else - being absolutely hilarious. Whether it's Moira's wigs, Roland's screw-ups, Moira's mispronunciations, or Moira's... well, basically related to Moira, there are countless moments that make viewers keel over, spluttering with laughter until their sides ache. This lot may not necessarily be the best episodes, but they are definitely the funniest.

10. Season 1 Episode 3 - Don't Worry, It's His Sister

When Johnny Rose, wife Moira and his children Alexis and David arrived in Schitt's Creek, they immediately found themselves butting heads with the incompetent mayor, Roland Schitt. When Johnny attempts to make amends, they get into another conflict when he sees the town's sign. The sign portrays a woman bending over a river while her brother holds her from behind to ensure she doesn't fall in. But because of their positioning, it looks like the pair are... getting down to business.

What makes this situation funnier is how nobody finds the picture inappropriate apart from Johnny. When he points it out to Ronnie, he says, 'Oh yeah, I see it now. His shoulders are too big.' When Johnny alerts Roland that passers-bys won't know the pair in the picture are siblings, he agrees to fix it. The episode concludes with Johnny revisiting the sign, only to learn Roland has placed a note beside it reading, "Don't Worry, It's His Sister.'

Even though the antics of the other Roses throughout this episode are entertaining, the hijinx surrounding this sign is one of the show's best gags.
