It's not easy being a Sherlock fan: we, on average, get three episodes every two years. Next year marks ten years since Doctor Who was revived. If we're lucky, we'll see a tenth Sherlock episode. Luckily though, when it's good, it's good. By splitting the show into 90-minute epics, there's something for everyone; plots unravel into beautiful conclusions, comedy flourishes without the pressure of "there must be a point to these punchlines", and Benedict Cumberbatch has plenty of screen-time to explore the intricate facets that make Sherlock so fascinating. And like Sherlock, it's those little details that we love. Of course, an evil scheme to blow up parliament is sure to draw us in, but it's the wonderful details, and the sheer cleverness, that keeps us hooked.
