As we edge nearer the finale, The Handmaid's Tale slows things down, and yet delivers one of its most stunning hours yet.

Holly picks up from where The Last Ceremony left off, finding June stranded in the middle of an icy abyss. With no one to call on for help and no means of getting in touch with her commander, the heavily pregnant handmaid is left with a soul-crushing ultimatum: wait for her superiors to come and find her once they realise she is missing, or make a run for freedom before they arrive.

It's a one-storyline episode this week, with Moira and Luke's Canadian adventures being left out, but these two characters do appear via flashbacks, which were more warranted than ever considering June literally has no one to talk to - other than us via voiceover, of course.

While the episode is largely uneventful, a few twists and turns in the latter half left our jaws on the floor, and as frustratingly slow as it is, it's completely understandable why an episode of this nature exists.
