It would seem that the light is winning. Whilst the likes of Mad Men are coming to an end, Breaking Bad has already shuffled off of its mortal coil and everything else seems to be migrating to Netflix, there's still one shining beacon of brilliance on TV: True Detective. The first season of Nic Pizzolatto's disturbing, existential crime drama was a surprise hit, the relatively unknown writer teaming with director Cary Fukunaga to coax some career-best performances out of Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson. With its focus on nihilistic philosophy and in-depth character studies €“ along with several murders committed by a cosmic horror-worshipping cult €“ the first season of True Detective accrued so many fans over the course of its eight episode run that HBO's online service crashed thanks to the number of people tuning in for the finale. A similar amount of insane, sudden joy accompanied the release of the first trailer for season two. Well, more teaser than trailer €“ attached to this week's season premiere for Game Of Thrones, the clip features none of Pizzolatto's signature sizzling dialogue, instead opting for glowering shots of the protagonists and the setting for this season. And if you missed it because you thought people were still just doing that #truedetectiveseason2 joke on Twitter then boy, did you miss a lot. Because even just with the glowering and the panning, this brief tease revealed a lot about what we can expect from this second go-around in Pizzolatto land (in concert with, amongst others, Fast And Furious franchise director Justin Lin). What's the occult secret of the Californian public transit system? What's that tie Colin Farrell's wearing? And is that really the guy from Dodegball? Here are ten things you need to see in the True Detective season two teaser trailer.
