10 Awesome WWE Makeshift Tag Teams That Won Gold

Cesaro and Sheamus wouldn't be the first unlikely alliance to capture the twin titles.

Following a brutal Best of 7 Series that ended in an anticlimactic draw at Clash of Champions, Cesaro and Sheamus will be forced to coexist by Raw general manager Mick Foley, who granted them a collective title shot at the WWE Tag Team Championship. Needless to say, it was the last thing they (and the fans) hoped to happen, and it remains to be seen how well they will be able to coexist.

That said, some of the strangest pairings were makeshift tag teams, put together on a whim when WWE Creative had nothing else for them in singles competition. Being placed in the tag team division could be seen as a demotion to some, but it has at times led to major career resurgences.

Stone Cold Steve Austin and Brian Pillman, collectively known as The Hollywood Blondes are a prime example of two wrestlers who found instant chemistry together and went on to dominate the tag teams ranks when they initially wanted nothing to do with each other.

Not only have rivals-turned-teammates put their differences aside and managed to exceed expectations by winning championships together, they ended up being quite awesome as a unit.

Cesaro and Sheamus could be no exception, and with their WWE Tag Team Championship opportunity against The New Day looming large, it is very possible they could find themselves on this illustrious list of unlikely alliances before long.

10. Matt Hardy And MVP

Matt Hardy and MVP were embroiled in a highly entertaining rivalry over the United States Championship throughout the latter half of 2007. After trading victories on various occasions, they were forced join forces by SmackDown general manager Teddy Long and challenge for the WWE Tag Team Championship.

Although they were not at all interested in teaming together, Hardy and MVP weren't going to turn down a golden opportunity. And in their first shot at the twin titles, they defeated Deuce n' Domino to become the new champions.

As awesome of opponents as they were, they made equally excellent partners and managed to coexist in each of their title defenses. While Hardy still had his sights set on MVP's star-spangled prize, he was willing to put his differences with his rival aside to hold onto his half of the tag titles.

Hardy and MVP were never meant to be a long-term team, mind you, but they were a fun addition to a rather depleted tag division in the final few months of 2007. They might have lasted longer had Hardy not been sidelined with an injury and forced to drop the WWE Tag Team Championship. As expected, MVP turned on Hardy as soon as they lost the titles and was the storyline reason for why Hardy was hurt.
