10 Best One-Liners From WWE SmackDown This Week (Aug 8)

Disneyland, blasphemy, and the result of an ill-timed wardrobe malfunction...

Tuning into SmackDown this week, you’d be forgiven for thinking you may have somehow been watching an old NXT re-run.

We saw an NXT tag team reunion of sorts in the aftermath of American Alpha’s latest win, while many of the female NXT alumni—including Eva Marie, Alexa Bliss, Becky Lynch and Carmella—would also feature throughout the show. And on top of all that, there was the backstage altercation between Baron Corbin and Kalisto, as well as further appearances from Rhyno and the Wyatt Family.

But of course, this was indeed an episode of SmackDown. And it was one that provided us with another solid, if unspectacular, showing from Bakersfield, CA, on Tuesday night.

Further seeds were sown in the WWE World title feud, which is fast becoming one of the more intriguing angles on WWE programming, and Randy Orton continued on his path to SummerSlam with a win over a former MMA fighter. Just, not quite the one he’ll be facing at the pay-per-view come Aug. 21.

And as always, the quips and quotes were in full flow, with plenty of one-liners being delved out over the course of the evening’s proceedings. And here we'll discuss ten of the best of them…

10. "Like Something Like Disneyland"

As mentioned previously, this week Randy Orton faced Alberto Del Rio—whom Mauro Ranallo reminded us was a former mixed martial artist himself, adding a nice layer to the story.

But prior to the pair’s in-ring meeting, they shared a brief backstage moment at the very top of the show. And Del Rio was sure to let Orton know his thoughts about all this new “Viperville” business. Showing his disgust, Del Rio suggested that the name Viperville sounds like a joke, or like something out of Disneyland.

Now, I’m not sure if this was intentional, but I couldn’t help but laugh at the way he repeated himself, admiring his wit as if he’d just delivered the put-down of all put-downs. You tell them, Alberto.

But aside from that, I’ve included this one because I also think Del Rio kind of has a point. To me, Viperville just sounds so contrived, and a very tame retort to Brock Lesnar’s Suplex City. Nicknames are often things that should arise organically, otherwise they don’t have quite the same effect. And in my book, this Viperville malarkey is very much a testament to that.
