10 Best Things Happening In Wrestling Right Now

Is this the best time to be a wrestling fan EVER?!

In the midst of one of the craziest weeks in wrestling, it's worth taking a moment to appreciate how great it is right now to be a wrestling fan.

We've already had the season premiere of Monday Night Raw with its new stage, new commentary team and same old ups and downs. Tonight sees the first Wednesday Night War as NXT and AEW go head-to-head for ratings dominance (and the affection of Dave Meltzer).

On Friday, SmackDown will debut on FOX desperate to justify its ludicrous deal with surprise appearances, celebrity endorsements and championship matches aplenty...and then there's just the small matter of a Hell In A Cell pay-per-view on Sunday night as well.

We're often accused of being overtly negative here at WhatCulture, of focusing purely on the downside of wrestling rather than acknowledging the good stuff.

Therefore, in an effort to redress this balance, and with honourable mentions to basically everything Daniel Bryan ever does, SmackDown's TV debut on FOX this Friday, and the return of PYRO in wrestling, these are the 10 best things happening in wrestling right now...

10. Cody's Southside Gesture

Depending on who you ask, BritWres is either alive & well and simply adapting to the ever changing wrestling landscape, or as dead as my nan.

Regardless, the closure of companies such as Pro Wrestling Chaos and our very own Defiant Wrestling following the establishment of WWE's NXT UK shouldn't be ignored.

NXT UK had honourable intentions in their goal of highlighting some of the best British talent under the WWE umbrella whilst simultaneously allowing them to perform for affiliated promotions. However, in practise this hasn't been the case, with stars leaving companies they've worked for for years due to WWE's restrictions, and numerous examples of wrestlers being pulled from shows with little to no justification.

A perfect example of this occurred recently when WWE removed all of their talent from Southside Wrestling's final show prior to their impending merger with RevPro. It appeared as though with the loss of the likes of El Ligero, Joseph Conners and Kay Lee Ray, Southside were about to go out with more of a whimper than a bang...

That was until Cody and the rest of All Elite Wrestling got wind of this impending tragedy; within hours it had been announced that MJF and Shawn Spears as well as Cody and Brandi would be making an appearance at the 9th anniversary show, thus saving the event and allowing Southside the farewell they deserve.

Wrestling is bloody brilliant sometimes.
