What is a jock? It's not a term that has much meaning in the UK, but if you watch a 1980s American high school film, it doesn't take long to realise what a jock is. Essentially, they are the popular athlete who only hang around with fellow cool kids, date cheerleaders and generally abuse their power and act arrogant. The anthesis of nerds, jocks rule the roost (and then usually fall later in life when removed from the safety zone of their school/college/university and have to fit into normal society).
