10 Current Superstars WWE Has No Idea What To Do With

O Jack Swagger, where art thou?

WWE's roster has rarely been bigger than it is today. With close to 100 wrestlers on Raw and SmackDown and dozens of others in developmental, the talent pool is gigantic, and there's a lot of competition for spots on the 7 hours of original weekly television WWE currently produce.

The Brand Split has alleviated the problem, but not eliminated it. The likes of Naomi and Braun Strowman have benefited immensely since the draft, but not everyone can be so fortunate.

WWE is a deep, deep ocean, and some fish are bound to get lost. It's impossible to feature everybody at once, but WWE have never been good at utilising their roster as a whole. Some wrestlers go months between television appearances while others are stuck in haphazard, thrown-together angles that are going absolutely nowhere, and there are plenty of examples on Raw and SmackDown.

The likes of Cody Rhodes and Wade Barrett saw their WWE careers dwindle away because of these practices. Does the same fate await WWE's current forgotten men and women? It's tough to say, but it's hard to tell how many of these wrestlers will still be with the company by the end of the year.

Here are 10 current superstars WWE has no idea what to do with.

10. Apollo Crews

Apollo Crews was a confusing main roster call-up. The former Dragon Gate wrestler has always been an outstanding athlete, but he was still early in his WWE development when the company brought him to Raw last April. Crews had spent close to two years at the Performance Center, but his microphone work still left much to be desired and his character was non-existent, making it hard to shake the feeling that his call-up was premature.

The feelings were justified a few weeks later. Crews limped through feuds with the Social Outcasts and Sheamus, and has faded into obscurity since the Brand Split. His character has never evolved beyond “happy guy who smiles a lot,” and while his matches are usually up to scratch, they’re too few and far between to be memorable.

Crews currently finds himself aligned with Kalisto in a listless feud with Dolph Ziggler, and he’s going nowhere at the moment. Sure, he pinned Dolph at Elimination Chamber, but this only led to Ziggler Pillmanizing his ankle in the aftermath. Here’s hoping the injury results in a calculated spell on the sidelines followed by a repackaging, because Crews is completely lost on SmackDown right now.
