There's only so many good ideas you can have with a PPV filled with gimmick matches.

For the past six years, WWE has touted the Extreme Rules PPV as the one night of the year that the company goes extreme. While this is an obvious play on the now-defunct ECW, it€™s also become a catch-all description for various stipulation matches. Whereas WWE€™s TLC PPV features tables, ladders and chairs for €œextreme€ matches, this event often focuses on various unconventional match types. Throughout the previous six Extreme Rules PPVs, we€™ve seen several 2-on-1 handicap matches, triple threat matches, steel cage matches, Last Man Standing matches and of course, Extreme Rules matches. Some of these matches also are seen throughout the year on other PPVs or on Raw and Smackdown, but WWE loves to use the €œExtreme Rules€ moniker to group them all together on one night. However, several match stipulations have come up during the past six years that we really don€™t see all that often in today€™s WWE, both during Extreme Rules and outside the PPV. These strange and rare stipulations might make an appearance and then not seen again for several years, if ever again. So as we get ready for the seventh installment of the Extreme Rules PPV, let€™s take a look at some of the more bizarre Extreme Rules stipulation matches to come down the pike.
