On 31 March, 1985 the WWE made wrestling history when they held their first ever pay-per-view event, WrestleMania at Madison Square Garden. The event was viewed on closed-circuit television by over one million fans, making it the most viewed event on closed-circuit television in the USA at the time. The main event saw Hulk Hogan team up with Mr T to defeat Roddy Piper and Paul Orndorff in a tag-team match, which also saw boxing legend Muhammad Ali appear alongside Pat Patterson as special guest referees. Now, 30 years on from this first WrestleMania event, WWE have showcased a total of 313 pay-per-views including the most recent Night of Champions event which took place on Sunday (20 Sep).
