10 Things That Only Happen in Pro Wrestling

There's nothing else quite like it in the world.

By Dean Ayass /

This week, tens of thousands of wrestling fans from all over the world have descended on Dallas for the biggest wrestling festival of the year. The great thing about such events is that everyone there is of the same mindset. Everyone there loves pro wrestling, which doesn’t always get a good ride in the mainstream press. It’s fair to say, however, that people on the outside, i.e. non wrestling fans, will never quite understand what it is that we love.

As the old saying goes, "for some people, no explanation is needed, but for others, no explanation will do." The very thing that draws us to the business and keeps us watching year after year is the fact that professional wrestling is totally and utterly unique. There’s simply nothing else quite like it in the world.

So, my dear fellow wrestling fans, put your tongue firmly in your cheek and come with me on a journey through the wrestling business, as we look at ten things that only EVER happen in the weird, wonderful and wacky world of professional wrestling.

10. The Sound Guy Knows All

Some of the most memorable moments in wrestling history have been when a wrestler has appeared out of the blue, completely unexpectedly. Nobody, it would seem, was aware that this person was in town, let alone in the building and in the ring. The most recent example of this was the monstrous pop that Shane McMahon received upon his return to a WWE ring on Raw after an absence of eight years. Shane’s father, Vince McMahon, the owner of the company, before whom everything has to be approved, was shocked. He had no idea that Shane was coming back, apparently.

Now, if the boss himself is unaware, there’s surely no chance that anyone else would know, right? Wrong. Wrestling history has shown time and time again that there is one man who has a greater knowledge of the inside dealings of every single wrestling promotion ever. Yes people, bow down to the sound guy!

The WWE sound guy was the only person in the entire WWE who knew that Shane O Mac was returning. The sound guy was the only person in the Hoosier Dome who knew that The Ultimate Warrior was returning at WrestleMania VIII.  Or that Chris Jericho would be interrupting The Rock on Raw back in 1999. You know, if only internet journalists could get in with the sound guy, they’d have all manner of exclusive wrestling scoops.
