Fans were stunned at first, but the former Intercontinental Champion explained his reasoning in a statement shortly after his official termination. He also shared a list of non-WWE wrestlers whom he wanted to work with when he was legally able to do so.

Since then, though, Rhodes has been quiet. New bookings have been announced and the star has taped a guest appearance on the upcoming season of Arrow, but he hasn't offered much more public insight on his decision to leave WWE or what he wants for his career going forward.

That's all changed. With the first non-WWE match of Rhodes's career coming up imminently (he'll be taking on Zack Sabre Jr. for EVOLVE on August 19 in Joppa, Maryland), he joined the Straight Shoot podcast to get in-depth about his feelings on WWE, the wrestling industry at large, and his place in the scheme of things.

Needless to say, the two-hour interview was chock full of revelations and explanation, giving fans a good idea of what the star has experienced and what he wants for and expects of himself. After so many years of knowing Cody Rhodes the wrestler, this was an introduction to Cody Rhodes the person.

Here are ten things we learned from Cody Rhodes's Straight Shoot interview:

10. He Wants To Be On The New Star Trek Show

The interview began with talk of Rhodes's upcoming Arrow appearance, which he just finished filming. Though Rhodes is sworn to secrecy regarding his character, he could let a little bit of information out: he's playing an adversary of Oliver Queen's, he's not playing Hal Jordan, and he had a great time.

Rhodes dabbled in acting after high school and before getting into wrestling, but this was still a huge learning experience for him. With a better understanding of what goes into making a TV show (as well as a love of science fiction and fantasy pop culture), Rhodes revealed that his dream acting job would be to have a role on Bryan Fuller's upcoming Star Trek: Discovery - even a bit role. He says he's been texting his agent about it every day, but so far, nothing's come through.

When asked, hypothetically, if he would leave wrestling forever for such a role, Rhodes answers from experience, stating that TV shows don't film on the weekends, so he could still work for Ring of Honor and other independent groups on Saturdays and Sundays.
