10 Times WWE Wasted Female Talent
You don't know what you've got 'til it's gone.
An all female tournament like the Mae Young Classic would have been unfathomable in the WWE as little as five years ago. The role of women in the company has had a chequered past littered with degrading matches, disinterested audiences and stale storylines. That ingrained stigma has only recently been banished by the Women's Revolution and the stellar work of all those involved.
The Women's Revolution sent ripples throughout the entire company and it's audience. Beyond the expansive, far-reaching branches of positivity regarding the future of the Women's division, it made many fans reminisce about some former superstars who never really got the opportunity to showcase their talents during their time in WWE.
From the sparse scene of the 1980s, to the silicone-fuelled days of the Attitude Era, all the way through to the bloated, butterfly-emblazoned division of the late noughties, WWE have wasted some incredible female talent.
Women who were trained and brimming with potential were passed over again and again in favour of quicker, more marketable alternatives. Some went on to better things whilst others endured a much more sombre fate.
10. Ivory
Lisa Marie Moretti had a rather unique start to her WWF career. First appearing as one of The Godfather's hos in January 1999, Moretti was signed and repackaged as Ivory less than a month later.
Introduced to fans as Mark Henry and D'Lo Brown's new valet, Ivory began to transition into an in-ring performer after a number of Inter-Gender Tag Team matches. A feud with fellow up and comer Tori and subsequent heel turn truly let Moretti shine. The two even took part in WWE's first all-female Hardcore match.
Unfortunately, the climate of the women's division at the time was woefully unsuitable for a performer like Ivory. Bikini contests, pudding pool matches and all manner of titillating stipulations detracted from the pure wrestling skill that she clearly possessed.
Along the way Ivory morphed in to a utility heel for the WWF, becoming a key component of the Right To Censor group before defecting to the Alliance during the Invasion angle.
With Ivory, the WWF had a student of the business capable of solid matches with a variety of opponents. As her own career slowed down, she seemed more than happy to pass on her knowledge and mould the division for years to come.
