10 Unique Statistics From WWE WrestleMania 39
If the Oscars were WrestleMania, Kevin Owens and Sami Zayn are Everything Everywhere All At Once.
The Royal Rumble is a treasure trove for WWE's ardent data geeks - but it isn't alone. WrestleMania, as WWE's premier event of the year, is likewise a conglomerate of facts and figures that was underscored at the latest 'Showcase of the Immortals'.
Such statistics were in abundance across the two-night event. Lita, for example, broke Leilani Kai's record - which has stood since 1994 - for the longest gap between WrestleMania matches for a female Superstar at 21 years, having had her sole outing on the grand stage at 'Mania X8. The Usos, meanwhile, became the fourth and fifth Anoi'a dynasty members to headline a WrestleMania; they succeeded Yokozuna, The Rock, and Roman Reigns. As for Rhea Ripley, in her preeminent victory over Charlotte Flair, she became the first to hold the Raw, SmackDown, NXT, and NXT UK Women's, and the Women's Tag Team titles.
But while each of these records stand assuredly prominent, there were other statistics to be expressed in the immediate aftermath of the 39th 'Show of Shows', those which are unique and unexampled. Some went voiced by WWE's broadcast team on the night, while others have been cited by the savvy @WWEStats Twitter account.
Turns out, you needn't look far to spot one very glaring stat...
10. Payday Miz
The pandemic was, needless to say, a bit bleak; its only compensating quality for WWE, in the loosest sense of the phrase, was a permanent change to a two-night WrestleMania. Since 2020, 'The Show of Shows' has operated under this formula to considerable success. Decreased show lengths have been the leading improvement, seconded by the increased likelihood of more talent getting a payday.
None more so in 2023, however, than The Miz.
Without a scheduled match, 'The A-Lister' was appointed the host of 'Mania 39, alongside Snoop Dogg. Opening the show on both nights following the standardised recital of America The Beautiful, Miz and Snoop also emerged later in the night on both shows where each time, Snoop Dogg granted the two-time WWE Champion with a spontaneous contest. This made The Miz the first man to wrestle on both nights of a two-night 'Mania.
He lost to Pat McAfee on night one, before the second night saw an omnishambles 'match' vs. Shane McMahon disintegrate in real-time, concluding in Shane tearing his quadriceps, Snoop Dogg taking his place, decking The Miz with a stiffer punch than Bart Gunn circa-Brawl For All, and People's Elbowing his way to a win.
It was terrible.
It was priceless.
