The biggest party of the summer has come and gone, and it’s time to clean things up a bit.

If you’re judging by its biggest matches, SummerSlam was a success, with the main event delivering everything it was supposed to, and the opening match setting the tone with a solid performance. Along the way, we got some pretty good action.

The PPV featured the farewell match for a WWE Hall-of-Famer, who proved that she can still “go” with the best out there today. It also saw another HOFer redeem himself from a poor performance earlier this summer by laying out an obnoxious loudmouth.

But SummerSlam wasn’t all sunshine and rainbows. The PPV suffered from a weird dynamic of having matches seemingly “toned-down” and ending just as they were starting to ramp up. Contrast that with NXT TakeOver the night before, where four of the five matches were epic showdowns that were all action from bell-to-bell. It’s not like fans would have rejected action-packed bouts.

Overall, SummerSlam was enjoyable, watchable, and notable for a couple key developments. It’s worth a look, but if you don’t have time, come on inside and check out what worked and what fell short.
