AEW delivered its best pay-per-view go-home Dynamite in memory this week, as Tony Khan's philosophy of under-loading these shows paid off in a night that didn't come close to hitting the promotion's ceiling between the ropes (by design), but came through with important plot progressions for most Full Gear 2021 stories.
The general build for this show hasn't been excellent. A couple of weeks ago, the prospective lineup felt like a clear comedown from the highs of All Out and the events surrounding that monumental show. AEW are never going to outdo that special night in Chicago, admittedly, but that the promotion could be doing more for 13 November was unshakeable.
Then CM Punk vs. Eddie Kingston became the perfect feud to throw down on a fortnight's notice. When Jon Moxley entered an inpatient alcohol treatment program, AEW did as they've done so many times before, successfully pivoting to Miro to fill the void opposite Bryan Danielson. Matches like FTR vs. The Lucha Brothers, meanwhile, may not be born from the most compelling storylines, but still look tremendous on paper.
And then there's the small matter of what should be the biggest ground-up moment in the company's history taking place in the main event.
