With a hotly-anticipated Brock Lesnar vs. Goldberg clash taking place this Sunday, you’d be forgiven for questioning what year it is.

To put your mind at rest, no it isn’t 2004, and no this Sunday’s pay-per-view is not WrestleMania XX. Some 12 years on from that first meeting, we find ourselves in a rather familiar situation, except this time the two brutes will be locking horns at Survivor Series 2016.

Just a few months ago, this match seemed like a bit of a pipe dream, what with the fact that Goldberg hadn’t been seen in the WWE since that infamous WrestleMania meeting. If anything though, you could argue that time away from the ring has only added to the hype ahead of this Sunday’s return.

That being said, it hasn’t all been plain sailing as far as this feud has been concerned. Reflecting on both the good and the bad, this article looks back on five positives and five negatives surrounding the Lesnar vs. Goldberg rivalry and their imminent showdown this Sunday.

10. Negative - We’ve Seen It All Before

Kicking things off with the negatives, I guess the most notable elephant in the room here is that Lesnar vs. Goldberg is in no way, shape, or form a fresh or novel feud.

The two of course met in singles competition at WrestleMania XX, meaning that this sequel at Survivor Series runs the risk of falling into the same anti-climactic category as other, unnecessary re-runs such as The Rock and John Cena’s “Once in a Lifetime” match. As in, the same “Once in a Lifetime” spectacle that that was repeated just 12 months later…

The saving grace here is that it’s been an awfully long time since that original Lesnar vs. Goldberg clash, and so enough time has passed for fans to become invested in seeing the score being settled.

Still, the fact that we’ve already seen this one once before does mean they’re going to have to pull something special out of the bag if they want to avoid this whole thing being a let-down.

And speaking of let-downs, that bring us nicely onto our second negative…
