After the acclaimed chaos of last week's New Year's Evil special, NXT needed to follow up on one of their most impressive Wednesday nights in some time. This week's show saw the beginning of the men's Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic, with Undisputed Era's Adam Cole and Roderick Strong locking horns with Breezango, Grizzled Young Veterans trying to build on a strong showing during the previous year's tournament Vs Ever-Rise, and Isaiah 'Swerve' Scott and Jake Atlas taking on a mysterious pair of Rascalz in the first round.

Elsewhere 'The Way' continued to wiggle their way out of clean victories, Dexter Lumis was made to look like a bizarre idiot, and distractions reigned supreme throughout the evening. Shenanigans aside, however, exciting teams were announced for the women's Dusty Cup, Fight Pit adversaries finally gave us a reason to care, and a new NXT Championship challenger announced themselves in brutal fashion.
