7 Unanswered Questions With WWE's Upcoming Draft

Everything we need to know about WWE's latest roster shake-up ... but don't.

By Graham Matthews /

Between SmackDown premiering on FOX, NXT moving to the USA Network and Raw celebrating a "season premiere" (for whatever that's worth), it was only appropriate that WWE held a proper draft to remind viewers who belongs to what brand.

After all, the Wild Card Rule, which has been around since May, and has done nothing but water down the Brand Split the Superstars worked hard to establish in 2016 and beyond. Let the record show we've already had one pseudo-draft this year in the Superstar Shake-Up, so it remains to be seen how this upcoming draft will be any different (if at all).

In fact, fans know next to nothing about how it is going to work aside from the fact that it kicks off this Friday night on SmackDown and continues next week on Raw. As exceptional of a job as WWE has done in promoting the anticipated event, there are way more questions than answers as far as how it will affect champions, who will be making the picks, and so on.

Your guess is as good as anyone's when it comes to what the rules of this draft actually are - though we do at least know who is eligible. Nevertheless, we probably won't learn the full details until it actually happens. It doesn't hurt to speculate in the meantime.

7. Will We See The Return Of Authority Figures?

WWE doing away with authority figures entirely last December (and going so far as to refer to the fans as "the authority") would have been fine and dandy had the McMahons not proceeded to show up on almost every episode of Raw and SmackDown from that point forward.

Specifically, Shane McMahon remained in charge of the blue brand even though general managers were a thing of the past. He ruled SmackDown with an iron fist before finally getting forcefully removed from his position of power by Kevin Owens on SmackDown's grand FOX premiere.

The timing of his on-air dismissal couldn't have been stranger seeing as how we have a draft coming up this Friday.

It's already been brought up on commentary multiple times how the USA Network and FOX executives apparently want the best rosters possible for their respective shows. Does that mean representatives from USA and FOX will appear on stage to make the picks themselves?

Even if not, there's still no explanation how the brands are going to be run week to week without general managers. There really isn't a point in battling for brand supremacy if there aren't any figureheads to make decisions and lead the charge.

As long as the McMahons remain out of the picture, that's all that matters.
