7 Ups & 3 Downs From WWE Raw (9 Sept - Results & Review)
Wyatt Sick6 ride high, Jey Uso main events, Hitman returns, Punk/Drew III booked.
Start strong, finish strong. That’s a mantra that works well in sports, and it’s also true for wrestling programs. Monday Night Raw this week was no exception to that rule.
Raw kicked off with a tremendously fun, chaotic eight-person brawl as the Wyatt Sick6 and American Made concluded their rivalry in a street fight, then finished with a frenetic four-way to earn a shot at the Intercontinental Championship.
Everything between those two matches, however, was either pretty good, decent, or meh. The Calgary faithful had a couple of really nice hometown hero moments, though one of them felt a bit underwhelming considering the magnitude of the appearance and what could have been. Bron Breakker and the Judgment Day had good nights, with the IC champ flexing his muscles and making his presence known throughout the program. The women’s tag title match was a marked improvement from previous efforts, but it still underperformed.
Overall, Raw managed to hit a few really high notes, deliver some decent supporting segments, and avoid any truly dismal moments. Throw in a better second effort from new Raw play-by-play man Joe Tessitore (whose debut last week was solid, if unspectacular) and you have the makings of a pretty decent show: not blow-away great, but an enjoyable watch.
