7 Ups & 3 Downs From WWE Raw (9 Sept - Results & Review)
Downs…
3. Background Stupidity
They were only onscreen for about 15 seconds Monday night, but Alpha Academy could not have looked more ridiculous if they tried.
Drew McIntyre was walking backstage when he happened by Otis, Maxxine Dupri, and Akira Tozawa, who were inexplicably fawning over a WWE Legacy title for the Calgary Flames, held perfectly so the camera could catch it as McIntyre walked by. Otis made a goofy face as Tozawa did the same, and Drew just shook his head and kept walking, looking like he couldn’t believe these goobers exist in the same universe as he does.
For Alpha Academy, the trio just had a really good showing in the six-person tag match last week against American Made, and they had rightly earned praise as being more than just a cannon-fodder comedy act.
Seven days later, they were right back to looking like jokes, hocking WWE merchandise in the most embarrassing manner during the show. At least when New Day would plug merchandise, it either would take place as an obvious commercial, or it would be done tongue-in-cheek, with a wink at the camera that they’re making money selling items.
