The Rusev Day collapse proved heartbreaking to legions of fans willing the pairing of former Vaudevillain Aiden English and 'The Bulgarian Brute' to go all the way against The New Day in their recent quest for title glory. It mattered not that the ascent was nine months late - it was two weeks early for actual Rusev Day - the duo could be SmackDown Tag Team Champions exactly a year to the day the merch-shifting moniker was first devised.

It wasn't to be. Like so many other times over the past year, Rusev and Aiden English failed in their stated aim. Things went from bad to broken just two days later when English viciously jumped his former friend from behind following a loss to Shinsuke Nakamura. Panicking over Lana grassing him up for moaning about their multitude of failures, English struck first as the 'Ravishing Russian' looked on in ostensible shock.

Rather than simply watching the show, Rusev returned to SmackDown Live the following week searching for answers. Instead, he was provided with a question even bigger than the illustration on Great O-Kharn's face curtains - just what exactly happened in Milwaukee?

7. English Lessons

The scandalous tone to Aiden English's accusation about the events in Wisconsin's largest city immediately drew the mind (and, based on wrestling Twitter in the aftermath, the mind's eye) to the most lurid possible conclusion - but might a shared history between the former NXT stars be altogether more innocent.

Lana's evolving accent has been a point of contention for audiences since she was first laughably "Americanised" during her relationship with Dolph Ziggler in 2015. Her Total Divas second life saw the lilt dropped entirely, resulting in a rather confusing mish-mash on television that has been reduced to her rolling her R-words for Rocky IV-esque Cold War heat.

Was the colleague with the word literally in his name improving her grasp on his own native tongue, rather than doing something altogether more salacious with it, as many have speculated?

Beyond the Ziggler tryst, there was never an explanation for how her oration improved to the degree it did - wouldn't it be lovely if Rusev's new rival was actually a kinder presence in his wife's life before he even thought of improving his?

Unless the truth was far darker, and he helped keep a secret...
