8 Steps To Booking WCW One Night Stand

A Wargames main event, a WCW Title rematch and more!

The World Championship Wrestling brand name is still something that WWE likes to promote even though the company died 14 years ago. In the buildup to Triple H's confrontation with Sting, Hunter loves to mention that Sting was the main guy in WCW and that Sting avoided going to WWE because he was scared of Hunter. It's a decent selling point for what will be a big match. It's also another example of WWE trying to make money off the WCW name. There have been numerous WWE DVDs produced in the last 14 years featuring WCW performers. Whether it's tribute DVDs about the New World Order, Goldberg, Sting, Ric Flair or compilations about the very best of Monday Nitro, WWE has tried to milk WCW for all its worth. One of the big selling points of WWE Network was the "Monday Night War" documentary series that featured the Raw vs. Nitro wars from the 1990s with WWE producing 20 hours of shows about it. While WWE doesn't mind putting older footage out there, they did miss the boat on something: a reunion show. In 2005 and 2006 they did ECW One Night Stand PPVs before launching the ECW brand. What about WCW? It was a much bigger company than ECW that was known worldwide. While it didn't have the cult following that ECW did, they had bigger names and they did a lot of things right. Don't forget that they also beat WWE in terms of ratings as well as being a more profitable company for a few years. The death of WCW has been talked about so much, but let's not forget about the wrestlers that made it work too. They deserve to be celebrated by their fans that loved the product. If television shows from 20 years ago can be celebrated, why not WCW? They had a very successful television show. As a bit of a fantasy booking experiment, here's a look at a potential WCW "One Night Stand" card in 2015. Obviously a lot of their former stars are in their 40s or 50s, so they can't realistically wrestle like they did 15 years ago. That's why you mix in tag matches or multi-man matches to avoid having them work as much. Here's how a potential WCW reunion show could look if WWE wanted to put it on WWE Network later this year.
