8 Times WWE Wrestlers Saved Other Wrestlers From Injury

Don't try this at home.

Don't listen to those overly-critical gadflies who will try to convince you that "pro-wrestling isn't real" and that the wrestlers "know how to fall" - pro-wrestling most certainly hurts.

The mat is not a trampoline; it's a harsh assembly of wooden planks covered only by a pathetically-thin padding of foam so that the bumps don't hurt as bad. Taking regular punishment in that ring night after night is painful enough, but given the wrestlers' propensity for performing high-impact spots, it makes for a much higher chance of bodily trauma.

Unfortunately, it also leaves them with much more room for error too.

Yes, accidents and injuries happen in professional wrestling. Though many fans like to place blame on certain wrestlers when somebody gets injured, it's usually nobody's fault. Well, unless you're Sexy Star and you just feel like ripping someone's arm out of its socket. Anyway, I digress.

In some instances, wrestlers can see that something is about to go terribly wrong and save their opponent at the very last second. Let's take a look at a few examples of such heroism...

8. Chris Jericho Saves Jeff Hardy

On a 2009 episode of SmackDown, number-one contender Jeff Hardy squared off against Chris Jericho. If Jericho were to win the match, he'd be added to the World Heavyweight Championship match with Hardy and Edge at that year's Judgment Day pay-per-view.

About seven minutes into the contest, Hardy was gassed. Still, he wanted to get his spots in, so he and Jericho tried to set up his patented "Whisper in the Wind". Seeing that Hardy was moving slowly towards the opposite turnbuckle, Jericho followed close behind. As Hardy's exhausted body crumbled on the top rope, Jericho ran towards him and stuck his hands out, saving him from a hard landing on the back of his head.

Though Hardy ultimately lost to Edge at Judgment Day, he's lucky he didn't lose a lot more than that a few days beforehand. He has Chris Jericho to thank for that.
