Furthermore, it often means that a wrestling promotion has put at least a modicum of faith in the appointed superstar. Quite simply, championship belts are what wrestlers fight for. There are many titles that have been around for a long time, having built respect and prestige over the years. The old standards, so to speak, will likely continue to be around for the foreseeable future -- as they are well established and revered amongst both fans and competitors. However, there are a great deal of now-retired titles from wrestlings past, many of which most fans have never heard of.
