In an update, PWInsider's Mike Johnson, who broke the original story, reports that Lawler's new contract is for a further two years. This means he will be with the market-leading promotion until January 2024.

'The King' returned to WWE programming via a cameo on this week's episode of Raw, interacting with Nikki A.S.H. and Rhea Ripley backstage. The 72-year-old has not been a full-time performer on company television since moving on from his position in the Raw announce booth in April 2020. That play-by-play tenure began in September 2019.

January 2019 saw the Memphis wrestling legend claim he had signed a two-year contract with a healthy raise, tying him to WWE for the foreseeable future. He stated, at the time, that his contracts with the company always expire on 10 January.

Lawler has made only sporadic WWE appearances over the past year or so, having dipped out of visibility at the COVID-19 pandemic's onset.
