Elias ended up taking Shane McMahon's place against Braun Strowman at Fastlane 2021, losing to The Monster Among Men in a relatively straightforward shellacking that lasted less than four minutes.

WWE ran an angle before the pay-per-view's main card revolving around McMahon getting "injured" while preparing to wrestle Strowman. He was bugged by Elias and Jaxson Ryker later in the evening, with the latter begging Shane to grant him a concert spot at WrestleMania 37. Later, Shane let Elias strum his chords for him in the ring, before revealing he'd be taking his place against Strowman.

An angry Braun then hit the ring, putting Elias away with minimal trouble. McMahon was on crutches with his knee iced up and successfully avoided getting pasted by Strowman himself.

Strowman vs. McMahon was booked for Fastlane 2021 on last week's episode of Raw. It was then seemingly cancelled as WWE removed all mention of the clash from its official website, before adding it back to the preview.

Then deleting it again.

Finally, WWE delivered clarity in the form of Shane's injury angle. He and Strowman have been feuding over the past few weeks, with McMahon calling Braun "stupid" as the basis, and there's a chance this could be prolonged until WrestleMania 37.
