This week on Smackdown, Rusev agreed to Mark Henry's challenge for a match at WWE Night of Champions on September 21. While Rusev was in the ring with Lana doing one of their promos where they were criticizing the United States, Henry walked onto the stage and wondered if they would accept his challenge. After they said yes, Henry spoke with confidence in front of the appreciative American crowd when he said: "At Night of Champions, I'm going to give you a good old fashioned, red, white and blue ass whooping. You understand me?" Sometimes crowd reactions on Smackdown are obviously fake, which we have been able to tell for 15 years, but when Henry spoke to Rusev in that manner you could tell the crowd reaction was very real. There were reports earlier in the week that WWE officials, particularly Chairman Vince McMahon, are very impressed with Rusev and have big plans for him. Rusev has yet to lose a match via pinfall or submission. It's unlikely that he's going to lose to Henry either. This feud is smart in the sense that Henry's a big enough name that when Rusev goes over him the fans are going to take notice of him more. Henry's also at the point in his career where he's in his early 40s and likely isn't going to receive a major push ever again. Because of his status as a former World Heavyweight Champion he brings credibility to the table.Once Rusev is done with Henry he'll likely move on to Big Show, who has been tagging with Henry of late. Show's another veteran babyface in his 40s that could put over Rusev and it would mean a lot for Rusev's career. All of this is likely going to lead to a showdown with Rusev against John Cena. It might be at WrestleMania 31 or at some point before that, but that's why they're lining up all these babyfaces for Rusev to beat. Other matches confirmed for Night of Champions: Lesnar vs. Cena for the WWE Title, Ziggler vs. Miz for the IC Title, Sheamus vs. Cesaro for the US Title and Paige vs. AJ Lee vs. Nikki Bella for the Divas Title. We expect The Usos vs. Goldust & Stardust for the tag titles to be announced soon. There will also be matches for the likes of Roman Reigns, Randy Orton, Bray Wyatt, Seth Rollins and Chris Jericho too. Rusev vs. Henry should be a very physical match. It's basic wrestling booking. Push a younger heel by having him beat veteran babyfaces. We've seen it happen so many times because it works.
