The Shane McMahon plot thickens.
Dave Meltzer writes in the latest Wrestling Observer Newsletter that stories of the 52-year-old's backstage conduct at Royal Rumble 2022 may be even worse than what has already been reported, with one person close to the situation commenting:-
“Every single story you’ve already heard, multiplied many times over. He was unprofessional the likes of which left VKM (Vincent Kennedy McMahon) no options but to fire him.”
News that Shane had been released by WWE broke on Wednesday. "Quietly let go" by his own father, it had been reported that Shane had immense backstage heat for his role in producing the men's Royal Rumble match on 29 January, which he tried to make all about himself.
It later emerged that McMahon's "unprofessional conduct" involved audibly complaining to several people after a number of his Rumble ideas were vetoed. Knowing this, it isn't hard to see why the locker room might have been upset with him.
Meltzer writes in the Observer that Shane wanted the Rumble's closing stretch to revolve around him. When his pitches were rejected, he was "visibly very unhappy", acting unprofessionally to fellow producer Jamie Noble and talking down to others. In addition, Shane and winner Brock Lesnar (who had several ideas accepted) disagreed on how the bout should end.
