Stephanie McMahon Talks WWE Stars "Building Their Own Brand"

Did WWE's Chief Brand Officer contradict her father's recent edict?

Stephanie McMahon's comments to Gary Vee on the #MarketingForTheNow series have fanned the flames of discontent amongst some wrestling fans following Vince McMahon's recent third party edict.

In July, Stephanie clearly stated that the onus was on WWE stars to help "build their own brand" away from the ring. She then went on to say that it's a good thing for the company if fans "are engaged with you as a person, as an individual", because that'd shine more focus onto their work on WWE television.

McMahon's words don't exactly jive with her father's latest call to heavily restrict use of third party apps like Twitch, YouTube and Cameo. The most recent update on this claims that Vince will allow the first two, but only if talent use their real names and let WWE know first.

Stephanie didn't say anything about that a few months ago.

Her appearance seemed more concerned with depicting WWE as a place in which talent using their initiative and seeking out opportunities to gain more spotlight would thrive.

She said that wrestlers must "recognise their own opportunity to build their own brand and use their own voice both in and outside of the ring".
