WWE: 12 Great Wrestlers Totally Screwed By Comedy Gimmicks

By Chris Mueller /

WWE is an entertainment company, not a sports franchise, and because their focus is entertainment we often see some solid talents wasted for the sake a few cheap laughs. Comedy characters have their place in wrestling, but it's always painful to see someone who has all the fundamentals and skills to be a big star be put in a position to be the butt of every joke. It's been happening for years. The Gobbledy Gooker is quite possible the best example of a character that was created only to get laughs and not to put on wrestling matches. Or the character was a fever-dream Vince McMahon had that he wanted to make a reality. Whatever the case may be, that is a ridiculous moment in WWE's history that they will never live down. Not all comedy characters go quite as far as a giant turkey, but they usually have plenty of awful moments that were meant to gain a quick giggle from the crowd. This slideshow will look at 12 comedy characters and the Superstars who were held down by those ridiculous gimmicks.
