WWE: 8 Awesome Match Types We Just Don't See Enough Of

By Mike Shannon /

At the recent Royal Rumble pay-per-view, the John Cena vs. Randy Orton match was promoted as a "traditional, one fall to a finish" one-on-one match. You could almost hear the groans from the live crowd as they were presented with the same match they had seen a hundred times before. Tradionally, one-on-matches can be great when a fresh matchup is presented and the pyschology of the bout brings the crowd into the story. However, when you have a match like Cena vs. Orton, something that has been seen before, a gimmick match will draw extra attention and raise interest in a feud that might be lacking the necessary heat. With the movement of WWE towards the TV-PG rating, some gimmick matches have fallen by the wayside and haven't been seen in quite a while. I am certainly not advocating that WWE start giving us Taipei Deathmatches or ask wrestlers to turn into stuntmen but I thought it would be interesting to count down the match types we just don't see enough of anymore.
