Retirements in professional wrestling are largely running jokes. Very few take them seriously due to the fact that so many performers "retired" only to come back a short time later. This has had a negative effect on real retirements as well. People like Edge, who have legitimate medical issues, don't get the benefit of the doubt any longer because their past colleagues have convinced the audience not to buy into any retirement angles. This list is a look back at the retirements that may or may not have been taken seriously at the time but, when all was said and done, the worker had no intention of actually retiring. Some of the retirements received more press than others but all of them were supposed to be taken seriously at the time.
