WWE: 9 Famous Wrestling Retirements (That Were Total Lies)

9. John Cena

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qdPAbFd_K4I In late 2010, John Cena had lost a match to Nexus leader Wade Barrett, forcing Cena to join the heel faction. Barrett planned to use John Cena to win the world title from champion Randy Orton at Survivor Series. Cena was installed at the special guest referee with the condition that, if Barrett did not win the World title, then Cena would be fired from WWE. At the event, Cena shoved Barrett into an RKO from Orton and counted Wade's shoulders to the mat, effectively firing himself. The next night on Raw, Cena cut a heartfelt promo about what WWE meant to him and how upset he was that he wouldn't be out in front of the fans every week. It was definitely a change from the usual goofy promos he usually cuts and the crowd actually seemed to buy it for the moment. Cena even received a standing ovation backstage after his promo, seemingly giving him a nice send-off to sell the angle. Of course, we all knew that John Cena would be back but some of us actually expected him to be gone for a week or two. John Cena barely missed an hour as he returned later in the show to attack the Nexus. In the same show, Cena went from being fired "forever" to attacking a faction and never missing one episode of Raw.
