WWE.comThe next WWE pay-per-view is called Battleground and it takes place on July 20 in Tampa, Florida. Even though there is only one more week of Raw before the show, WWE has only announced three matches for the event. Two of them were known last week and one was added on Raw. The new match added to the show was Jack Swagger (with Zeb Colter) taking on Rusev (with Lana). During Raw, Rusev was in a match and Colter appeared doing a taped promo that aired during the Rusev. That kind of promo doesn't happen too often. The story has been built up for weeks now, so it makes sense that they'll have the "Real American" taking on the evil "Russian" at Battleground. Swagger wasn't at Raw, nor was he at any of the live events this weekend. The reason given for that is due to legal reasons preventing Swagger from appearing in Canada, which is where WWE was this weekend and for TVs this week in Montreal and Ottawa. According to Wrestling Observer Radio, Swagger had to miss WWE events in Canada earlier this year for the same reason, so it's possible he still isn't allowed in Canada. R-Truth used to have the same problems, but he was at live events this weekend. Swagger was charged with marijuana possession over a year ago, so that's likely why he was kept off the show. There was also some concern that Colter might get booed as a "Real American" in Canada. Not sure if he would, but it's possible. It's not like Canada hates America, though. The main event is the Fatal 4-Way for the WWE World Heavyweight Title with John Cena defending against Kane, Roman Reigns and Randy Orton. It would be a surprise if Cena lost that match. There's also the Battleground Battle Royal for the vacant Intercontinental Title with the following names confirmed for it: Fandango, Sheamus, Cesaro, Damien Sandow, The Great Khali, Ryback, Curtis Axel, Bo Dallas, Kofi Kingston, Dolph Ziggler, Rob Van Dam, Big E and Alberto Del Rio. That's 13 names for it. We still don't know how many people will be in it. Does WWE even know by this point? No idea. Other matches expected to take place are Dean Ambrose vs. Seth Rollins and perhaps Chris Jericho vs. Bray Wyatt, but both of those are also expected for SummerSlam too. It seems like Battleground is just a hype show for SummerSlam. If any other matches are announced during the Smackdown tapings or later in the week we will let you know.
