WWE SummerSlam 2017: Every Match Ranked From Worst To Best
All over the place.
This year's SummerSlam was... not exactly one for the ages, that's for sure. Bogged down by booking that made no sense and was essentially insulting to the wrestlers involved, to a match that had to take place in a virtually empty arena, there were a ton of bizarre mishaps which kept this year's show from being anything more than a wildly mixed bag.
It wasn't all bad, at least, with a handful of average-to-good matches and, yes, two genuinely great bouts in their own right. Still, the terrible matches bog down a show that absolutely did not need to run six hours and pump out a ludicrous thirteen (!) matches. It's just too much.
It'll be interesting to see where the various title changes and shake-ups lead, but in many cases it's hard to be optimistic, especially as SummerSlam was so thoroughly outdone by NXT TakeOver yet again. Biggest party of the summer? Not quite...
13. Randy Orton Vs. Rusev
Result: Orton murders Rusev with an RKO as soon as the bell rings (0:10).
Rating: While on one hand it was hilarious to see Orton score such a nonchalant victory after suffering a pre-match assault from Rusev, it was ultimately an incredibly weird and undeserved burial that was really more embarrassing and sad than anything.
Rusev totally didn't need or deserve this and it's a shame to see him put in such a spot despite his clear talent, while Orton continues to do little of mention or importance, which is also pretty depressing.
An insult to anyone who paid to watch the show, really. It gets one point because you might laugh. 1/10
