WWE Super Show-Down: 8 Things We Learned
From Last Time Ever to One More Match.
When WWE announced to the world that they were doing a huge WrestleMania-like event in Melbourne, Australia, the feedback was mixed to say the least. They had already given us WrestleMania in New Orleans and The Greatest Royal Rumble in Saudi Arabia this year, but this did not stop them from randomly booking the major event in the midst of its already-planned PPVs, because why the hell not, right?
Well, Super Show-Down did indeed take place and the creative team sure went out out of their way to prove that it was much more than just a big house show. While some matches were pretty bland and well, house show-like, others were nothing short of a hoot - providing us with some off-the-wall moments and genius storytelling.
However, there were a few genuinely surprising things that took place, highlighting that anything really can happen at a house show damn it (as long as it's on the WWE Network)! Some of these events have certainly left WWE in an interesting place going forward, and, if executed correctly, could lead to some intriguing developments in the weeks to come. However, as this is WWE, not all of them are good.
8. WWE Still Isn't Ready For Asuka
Poor Asuka. 2018 started out so very well for her.
'The Empress of Tomorrow' won the first ever women's Royal Rumble and put her undefeated streak on the line at WrestleMania against Charlotte Flair, for the SmackDown Women's Championship. A first loss was inevitable, but the two that followed (and the horrid writing) absolutely demolished every single ounce of momentum she ever had. Now, she's lucky to be featured on any card whatsoever.
Speaking of which, she finally made her PPV return at Super Show-Down, teaming with Naomi in a tag team match that was simply designed to give Australian duo The IIconics a big win Down Under.
Unfortunately for Asuka, she was taken out on the outside as Peyton Royce and Billie Kay scored the victory over a fallen Naomi. While she wasn't the one pinned, another loss on PPV certainly doesn't help the little (if any) momentum she had left. Moreover, taking her off TV for months, simply for her to return and end up on the losing side again is either really lazy writing, or more proof that WWE still hasn't a clue what to do with her. Unfortunately, neither of those circumstances bode well for the 'Empress of Tomorrow'.
