WWE To Unveil New US Championship Belt On Raw Tonight
New strap is "clean, yet prestigious".
WWE are set to reveal a spangly new version of their star-spangled United States Championship on tonight's episode of Monday Night Raw, according to Twitter outlet WrestleVotes.
Sources within the company say the new strap has a "clean, yet prestigious" look, something akin to the recently remodelled Intercontinental Championship, which debuted last November.
Save for an update to reflect a company wide shift in corporate brand identity, the secondary title has retained its current design since the championship was reintroduced to WWE back in 2003 (the WCW variant had been used throughout 2001 until it was unified with the Intercontinental Championship at Survivor Series 2001). John Cena briefly brandished a custom-made 'spinner' variant shortly after his WrestleMania XX victory, though thankfully that has since been left in storage.
Rumours of a new United States belt design have surfaced with alarming regularity for a title it's often difficult to remember exists, most recently hitting the newswires this past December. If the latest suggestions are to be believed, current champ Apollo Crews will be handed the honours of peeling back the velvet bag on television tonight.
