This was the moment we were introduced to our new, swashbuckling interpretation of Daredevil. In issue one, Matt interrupts a mob wedding in order to stop the teleporting and malicious The Spot as he zaps around snapping necks and whatnot. But this is when we get the fast quips, the high-flying action, and the fun that's been missing from Daredevil for years. Waid's debut is every shade of perfect on every level and Paolo Rivera's art is absolutely flawless. And while, maybe morally, this isn't the most appealing moment, but it certainly seeks applause after recent Daredevil events. This is his bravado return to the city and he's pulling no punches. He's left that past behind, is smiling and winking, and is entertaining us like the good 'ol days of old. Short, simple, and sweet, Waid's issue number one was a hit with both critics and fans alike.
