10 Characters Marvel And DC Don't Know What To Do With

3. The Female Furies

The Female Furies are a military group bred to serve Darkseid, the ruler of Apokolips. The team members are fanatically subservient to Darkseid and are willing to kill on his behalf.

The team's former leader, Big Barda, abandoned the Furies when she fell in love with Mister Miracle. Miracle and Barda went on to become one of the few superhero couples in DC Comics. Barda is one of strongest superheroines in comics and has been an empowering role model for female readers for decades.

And yet, next to nothing is known about the other Female Furies. In fact, it took a whopping 46 years before they received their own series. Their first self-titled series focuses on how the Furies and the rest of the women of Apokolips are mistreated, tortured, and brainwashed into becoming Darkseid's minions. The newer series opted for a different approach, but fell tragically flat compared to the original comics.

How come the original writer, the legendary Jack Kirby, could make Barda feel like a developed, flesh-and-blood character but modern writers struggle to do the same thing today? It doesn't make sense, and with a New Gods film on the way, DC would do well to figure out what exactly they want to do with Kirby's Fourth World.
