10 Craziest Comic Sub-Plots You Won't Believe Existed

10. The Metal Men

Cyborg is a comic with some pretty outlandish elements at the best of times - so adding the almost cartoonish 'Metal Men' to that is as jarring as it is totally unnecessary.

The Metal Men are – no big surprises – made entirely out of different metals, and show this by existing entirely in the colour of said metal, which sounds charming but is a little jarring with the more natural colours of everything else in the comic. It’s not that they don’t serve a purpose – several issues after their introduction into the comic they actually become a major plot point – but until then they’re just weird metal Power Rangers, lurking on the page for unclear reasons.

The Metal Men go way back, sure – all the way to 1962 – but including them in the Cyborg comic does create a stranger tone.

They do allow for terrible metal puns, though, so... it’s a little bit worth it?
